What is semaglutide?

It is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as GLP-1 receptor agonists.

It is used to treat type 2 diabetes by regulating blood sugar levels.

Semaglutide is also FDA-approved for weight loss.

How does it work?

Semaglutide mimics the hormone GLP-1 which targets the area of the brain that regulates the appetite and food consumption.

The treatment consists in a monthly program of once a week injection given in the fatty areas of the abdomen or thigh. Works by increasing the dose every 4 weeks for up to 6+ months depending on individual needs and weight loss goals. You can take Semaglutide with a full or empty stomach.

What are the benefits of Semaglutide?

  • BMI>27 AND at least one of the following

    ○ high blood pressure

    ○ high cholesterol

    ○ Type II Diabetes

    ○ Any co-morbid medical condition that is caused as a result of being

    obese/overweight

  • All clients interested in this program will need baseline labs drawn unless he/she has results from testing within 90 days prior to the consult.

Who is a good candidate?

  • Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (tumors in your glands)

  • A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (a type of thyroid cancer)

  • Have ever had an allergic reaction to Semaglutide or an intolerance to any other medication in the category of GLP-1 inhibitors

  • There is also caution in those who have a history of stomach or intestinal disorder, pancreatitis, kidney disease, or eye problems caused by diabetes. These individuals are evaluated on a case by case basis.
